CORFU. Refuse and waste should be kept at our homes and businesses - guidelines for dealing with the accumulation of rubbish.
HOW TO DEAL WITH THE NON-COLLECTION OF REFUSE
The dumping of refuse at the Temploni landfill and Recycling Centre hasstopped.
The Municipal Cleansing Service is no longer able to collect refuse. Therefore, in order to deal with the problems that will arise residents and businesses are advised to do the following:
- Carefully separate recyclable materials (paper, glass, plastic, metal containers) from the rest of the waste. Keep these at your home or business and put them in the blue dumpsters when rubbish collection resumes. In this way we keep recyclable materials, minimize the amount of rubbish and help to quickly restore things to normal when collection begins.
- In addition, businesses should also package their wrapping materials and store them.
- The remaining waste should be kept well sealed in durable bags. Food and organic waste should be separated from the other waste (paper, glass, plastic, metal tins) and as much as possible kept at home.
- Food and beverage establishments should ensure that organic waste is separated, wrapped up and kept in cool places, preferably air-conditioned, as much as possible.
- Glass containers (bottle, jars) can be deposited in the blue dumpsters as they are collected separately and not taken to either the landfill or the Recycling Centre at Temploni. If they are full, please call 8011 119999
When refuse collection resumes there will be updates for each district.
