New ΄wave΄ of school trips to Corfu from Thursday

Whatever the Minister's intentions were in limiting school trips abroad, it will certainly boost the domestic economy - in the months preceding the full tourist season when the local market is short of money.

So there will be 5-day school trips to Corfu again, packing out the hotels that opened at Easter as well as the clubs and cafes. Local businesses told Enimerosi that they welcome the fact that the school trips haven't been manipulated as they were in the past and so the town will be flooded with thousands of schoolchildren and shops, cafes and clubs will be full day and night.

The ministerial decision

Last year the Ministry of Education's decision stated that school trips were being limited to within Greece because "a large number of families were unable to pay for trips abroad". "Bearing in mind that there are numerous alternative options for school trips on offer in Greece, it was decided to avoid creating feelings of disappointment and bitterness in school children whose families had financial problems".

Thus, school trips will once again be within Greece.
