CORFU. 4th High School pupils also took part in the protests.

Amidst protests from teachers and pupils the Minister for Education Niki Kerameos opened the new 4th High School building this morning.

Pupils from the 4th High School also took part in the protests outside Maraslio Town Hall.

Both the primary and secondary school teachers' unions said that the minister was unwelcome here because of the condition of Corfu school infrastructure.

There was a protest march to the school being opened, where they stopped by police outside the building.

The minister arrived accompanied by Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas and the following were present at the opening ceremony: Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou, Deputy Mayor for Technical Works Nikos Kalogeros, Municipal Councillor responsible for education Maria Zervou and Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa.

Before visiting the 4th High School the minister passed by the Vocational High School, where she received complaints about the lack of equipment even though it is supposedly a 'prototype' school. The minister promised that all schools in Greece will be equipped with interactive boards.

The atmosphere at the 4th High School was completely different and Ms. Kerameos spoke with the pupils who weren't taking part in the protest and she allowed them to take selfies with her.

Nevertheless, the loud protests from outside were heard during the opening ceremony.
