CORFU. Representatives from 16 countries and 34 organizations are taking part in the Symposium, 16 - 19 April.

The Symposium is an annual event dedicated to developing the theory and practice of place management and marketing, within a context of responsible tourism on the island of Corfu and will take place from 16th to 19th April at the Mayor Mon Repos Palace Hotel. The 5th Corfu Symposium on Managing and Marketing Places will be on the theme of “Changing places: Visions of utopia or dystopia?”

The Symposium is unique amongst academic conferences, as it offers academics and local businesses and policy makers the opportunity to engage directly with place making, management and marketing issues and to apply research results in the improvement of the tourist product in Corfu.

There will be discussions around research and views on SMART growth, inclusive growth, degrowth, devolution, revitalisation, placemaking, place branding, destination marketing and other issues.

The Symposium is organised and chaired by Dr Heather Skinner of the Institute of Place Management at Manchester Metropolitan University.

On Wednesday 18th April there will be an open event at which members of the local business and tourism community can see the results of the Corfu Symposium on Managing and Marketing Places. They can see which of these may be helpful in their own business activities and can also make their own contributions regarding local activities at the Forum. The Forum starts at 18:30 at the Faliraki Conference Centre.
