Start of tourism season in Corfu
CORFU. Corfu on the favourable side of developments. The market is witnessing a rally in fuel prices. Tourist destinations changing due to the war in the Gulf.
The 2026 tourism season in Corfu effectively begins on March 26, with the first international touchdown of the year at Corfu International Airport, marking the start of arrivals from key European markets, led by the United Kingdom. Although there is no public confirmation of a specific flight number or exact arrival time, all available data indicate that these are the first charter arrivals, which each year set the tone for the season and serve as the island’s practical “opening” to international tourism.
The outlook for 2026 appears particularly positive. Advance bookings are on the rise, demand remains strong, and the season seems to be starting earlier and extending longer than in previous years, with a clear aim of surpassing the traditional peak three-month period. Corfu continues to rank among the country’s most recognisable and attractive destinations, with both air connectivity and cruise activity strengthening, further boosting the market’s overall momentum.
However, the international context—particularly the war in the Gulf—introduces an element of uncertainty. So far, no mass cancellations for Greece have been recorded, but a more cautious booking pattern is evident, with delays and a growing preference for last-minute decisions. At the same time, rising fuel costs are affecting airfares, while some travellers are reconsidering their plans. Meanwhile, Greece—and Corfu in particular—is being reinforced as a safe destination, absorbing part of the demand shifting away from more unstable regions.
Overall, the 2026 season is getting off to a dynamic start, underpinned by strong demand, but is unfolding within an environment of heightened geopolitical sensitivity that requires continuous market adaptation.
