CORFU. ΄Fortifications΄ were created over Easter in Mesorahia blocking the approach to the landfill facility. It is thought that the trench was dug on Good Friday.

The work was carried out while everyone was busy with the celebrations and the thousands of visitors. Deputy Mayor for Cleansing Services, Spyros Aspiotis, confirmed the fact on the local TV channel Start but was unable to give further details and remained reserved about the Municipality's reaction.

Charges were pressed against person or persons unknown on the same day, which gives the public some idea of what is likely to follow when the 2-month 'truce' with Temploni runs out and Lefkimmi refuses to accept the piled up waste bales.

The trench was dug by mechanical diggers on the road connecting the facility to the main road network thus blocking any approach and obstructing the work to open up the road which is a precondition for permission to operate the facility being granted.
