CORFU. “We wanted to give something back to the island for all it has given us,” said Jorg Rockenhauser.

German citizen Jorg Rockenhauser gifted the vehicle to the North Corfu Police at a small ceremony in which he was honoured by the Ionian Islands Director of Police, Ioannis Matsoukas and the Corfu Director of Police, Spyridon Alamanos. The patrol vehicle, which Mr. Rockenhauser wishes to be used by the North Corfu Police, was officially handed over to the Regional Police Service. The vehicle is a SUZUKI-S CROSS/1.6/2WD DIESEL/GL (PLUS).

Along with Jorg Rockenhauser, his wife and legal representative were also present at the small ceremony along with the Administrative Director of the Ionian Islands Regional Police, Konstantinos Vlachopoulos, and the Director of the North Corfu Police Department.

In his statement the Regional Police Director, Ioannis Matsoukas, said the following:

“It is our great pleasure to have you here today and to honour you for your gift to the North Corfu Police Department, the residents of north Corfu and the Police Service in general.

The duty of the Police is to serve the public and your gesture is in that same spirit. Nowadays, these types of gesture contribute greatly to the maintenance of public safety and security. Corfu and the Ionian Islands in general are safe destinations and the Greek Police is recognized for the high quality of service it provides.

As General Director of the Ionian Islands Police I would like to thank you for the gift and to congratulate you. I consider you to be an official ‘friend’ of the Greek Police.”

In his reply Jorg Rockenhauser said, “Corfu is a second home to us and we are spending more and more time here. For that reason my wife and I wanted to give something back for all we have received and enjoyed in this beautiful place.

The idea of giving a police vehicle to the North Corfu Police Department came to us when we visited it for a personal matter. We wanted to give something that would help it provide even better services to the area.

We considered it important to contribute to the practical needs of the Greek Police and are willing to contribute again in the future if required. Thank you very much.”

Mr. Rockenhauser was then presented with an honorary plaque by the Ionian Islands Director of Police and an honorary diploma by the Corfu Director of Police.
