Leeward jetty at Corfu port nears completion but there are still concerns about Spilia marina
CORFU. The final 256,000 Euros have been made available for the completion of the work.
This good news means that work can be completed on the leeward jetty and the contractor will begin work in the next few days, complete the project and then hand it over. The port authority’s request to receive its power supply from the electrical sub-station across the road next to the filling station has also been approved. This means that by Easter the berths for the Corfu-Igoumenitsa ferries will have been shifted to this quay and the ticket offices will open at the east entrance.
Spilia Marina
There are still concerns about the completion of the work at the small marina by the Café Yiali. Although funds are available and it can be put out to tender, it has suddenly been discovered that there is an outstanding issue with the study for the drainage of the waste water collection system at Campielo (there was no separation of rainwater and waste water in the 90s).
Reports of this ongoing saga state that DEYAK had completed and submitted this report and it had been added to the file on the project for the berthing of tourist yachts. It was then considered better to move the facility out of the small bay but now they have reverted to the original idea as there is a proposal to construct a pumping station on the west side of the marina – a bigger and possibly costlier project.
