PAXOS. Transportation of the waste accumulated over a period of 8 months hasn’t begun yet.
The noose is tightening on the hopelessly saturated landfill at Temploni. There is waste which has accumulated on Paxos over 8 months – the subject of dispute with Spyros Aspiotis, Corfu Deputy Mayor for municipal cleansing services – which Paxos Mayor Spyros Vlachopoulos is demanding be finally transported to Corfu as provided for in law.
Following his meeting with Spyros Vlachopoulos on January 10th, Corfu Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos pledged to remove the waste within the following few days. “We have been assured that they will be able to take a shipload with 15 containers by the end of the week - Monday or Tuesday at the latest. I hope they don’t create any problems.” Spyros Vlachopoulos told Enimerosi.
600 tons of unburied waste have accumulated on Paxos and the island can no longer keep it as was requested by the Cleansing Service for the peak summer months.
