25 road accidents and 29 fatalities over the Christmas period in Greece

The number of road accidents over the Christmas period was only slightly lower than last year, according to statistics published by the Greek Police.

Road accidents over Christmas, New Year and Epiphany.

The number of accidents and injuries throughout Greece over the holiday period 22 December 2017 – 7 January 2018 was lower than that over the same period last year. The exact statistics are as follows:

The Traffic Police would like to remind everyone that driving carefully and following the Highway Code are basic requirements for getting safely to our destination and avoiding road accidents.

We mustn’t forget that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Driving safely means:

  • Knowing the Highway Code and following it.
  • Not drinking and driving.
  • Respecting the speed limit.
  • No illegal overtaking.
  • Stopping at red traffic lights.
  • Stopping at STOP signs and giving way to other traffic.
  • Giving way to pedestrians and those with special needs.
  • Obeying the road signs and traffic police.
  • Always wearing seat belts.
  • Putting children in the back seats and ensure they are wearing seat belts.
  • Always wear a crash helmet on motorcycles (riders and passengers).
  • Checking the vehicle before setting out.
