27 road accidents in Ionian Islands in August

The Ionian Islands Regional Police Department has released aggregate statistical data concerning road accidents and driving offences for the month of August 2025.
Traffic Accidents
In Corfu, Lefkada, Cephalonia and Zakynthos, a total of 27 road accidents were recorded, compared to 21 in 2024.

2 accidents with serious injuries, compared to 1 in 2024

23 accidents with minor injuries, compared to 17 in 2024
From the road accidents that occurred there were:

2 deaths, compared to 3 in 2024

30 people with minor injuries, compared to 22 in 2024
The main causes of road accidents were:

Not maintaining a safe following distance

Traffic Policing Actions
As part of traffic policing operations carried out in August, a total of 9,623 driving offences were confirmed, compared to 5,175 in August 2024. These included:

183 for driving under the influence

1,018 for speeding

1,466 for not wearing a helmet

129 for not wearing a seatbelt

60 for using a mobile phone while driving

34 for noise pollution from vehicles

12 for running a red light
-
32 for dangerous driving

190 for driving without a valid licence
-
84 for lack of insurance policy
-
108 for MOT violations
Additionally, 33 arrests were made, of which:
