CORFU.The president of Corfu Port Authority, Spyros Stefanidis, announced that the first hydroplane trial flight will take place in Corfu this coming Sunday.
Licences have already been granted for the creation of waterways in Corfu and Paxos. Their creation is also being advanced in Igoumenitsa, Ioannina Lake and Preveza. Christos Spirtzis, who recently visited Igoumenitsa port to inspect the preparations, committed himself to the granting of a waterway licence for Igoumenitsa port, which ‘will act as a driver for the development of quality tourism’, he stated.
The hydroplane is a Kodiak 10-seater and commercial flights are expected to begin in spring.
The appropriate procedures are underway at the Region of Ionian Islands for the establishment of waterways in Cephalonia, Ithaki, Lefkada and Meganisi so that a full network can be established in the Ionian Islands. The first step is to interconnect the Ionian Islands and in the future to have connections with southern Italy, Ioannina and Patra.
