CORFU.Fotini Vaki, Corfu Syriza MP, made the following statement about Dr Michalis Agathos, member of the research team that won the Nobel Prize in Physics 2017 for its work on gravitational waves.
“He has reminded us of our duty to strengthen and improve tertiary education and research in Greece. I would like to take the opportunity of the 10th National Amateur Astronomy Conference in Corfu, a significant scientific event, to congratulate the organizers and the scientists who participated, especially Dr Michalis Agathos, member of the team which was awarded the Nobel in Physics 2017 for its research into gravitational waves.
Michalis Agathos, who has brought honour to the international scientific community and to Corfu itself with his work and his recognition, has amply demonstrated that Greek scientists excel on the international scientific stage and reminds us of our duty to contribute to the strengthening of tertiary education and research in this country as well as to the application of policies which will stem the emigration of young scientists.”
