CORFU.According to data from the companies AXIA Hospitality and Nelios, the Ionian Islands had the greatest increase in Greece this year in arrivals by air and in hotel occupancy in properties that had increased their prices- especially 4 and 5 star establishments

The data (Google Analytics, WebHotelier, OTA’s Extranets, Hotel PMS) comes from 260 hotels of all types that AXIA Hospitality and Nelios work with in the majority of Greek destinations. The two companies provide their clients with Hands Free Hotelier – a product to improve hotel performances.

AXIA Hospitality, whose managing director is Yiannis Kiritsis, offers specialized sales and reservations services, while Nelios, whose managing director is Dimitris Serifis, is the only Digital Marketing Agency in Greece fully integrated in the provision of internet services for hotels.

Based on the data of the two companies, the preference of travellers for the Ionian Islands continues to increase, with an increase in occupancy of more than 31% for the period January-August compared to 2016 plus a price increase in the hotels in the highest categories – mainly 4 and 5 star – in the region of 21.2% (approx. 162 Euros).

In Athens prices showed an increase of 19.6% (129 Euros) and in the Cycladic Islands of 15% (257 Euros). Of the 260 hotels throughout Greece, those in the Cyclades had the highest average occupancy for the 8-month period with 76% and the second highest increase in average occupancy with 22.2%. Athens hotels had an average occupancy of 67.7%, the Ionian 54% and the remaining Aegean 49%.

Amongst the general trends that the two companies noted was that Greece is amongst the countries which show an increasing trend in direct bookings, proving that Greek consumers have familiarized themselves with the use of the internet for holiday bookings and have grown to trust it for all their purchases. There was also confirmation that Germany, UK, France and the USA continue to be the most important markets for Greek tourism, occupying the Top 5 positions in total room nights for the regions of Cyclades, Ionian, Athens and the remaining Aegean. Another trend noted is the increase in the average length of stay which ranges from 2.6 days (in Athens, which nevertheless is a slight increase from last year) to 4.4 days in the Ionian Islands.
