GAIOS (PAXOS). The long-standing concern of locals and the school community regarding the lack of school buildings in Vlachopopouliatika,
Paxos has been settled by the placement of prefabricated classrooms.
The prefab classrooms were set up in land next to the school building, which was bought by the Municipality four months ago. Meanwhile, to try and find a solution to the long-term problem of a lack of school infrastructure, application has been made for permission to construct a new school building to cater for the increase in the number of pupils on the island.
The immediate aim is to install electricity and heating in the new prefab classrooms so that pupils can start using them.
The Municipality of Paxos is working closely with the School Buildings Organization, the Development Management Unit, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transportation and Networks and the Minister of Infrastructure, Christos Spirtzis to solve the problem.
The Mayor of Paxos, Spiros Vlachopoulos and the deputy mayor Giorgos Lixnos had several meetings in Athens in an effort to find a quick and favourable solution to the problem, while Corfu MP Kostas Pavlidis played a vital role from the very beginning and was present at most meetings.
The Municipality of Paxos would like to thank the following for their positive help and collaboration: the office of the Minister of Infrastructure, and especially, Ms. Eleni Flaski; the Development Management Unit, and especially the President, Panagiotis Pantos; Anastasios Achaimastos, civil engineer; the School Buildings Organization, especially Vasilios Karagiannis and Theodora Kiriazopoulou, Director.
