CORFU. The bus, carrying 35 passengers from Kavos, became trapped after the road surface subsided due to a fault in a DEYAK water pipeline.

There were serious traffic problems and lengthy delays on Saturday evening in Chrysiida following an unexpected incident involving a KTEL bus.

The bus, which was returning from Kavos carrying 35 passengers, became trapped in a pothole that had formed in the roadway. According to reports, the spot had suffered subsidence due to a serious fault in a DEYAK pipeline in the Chrysiida area.

Fortunately, the 35 passengers disembarked immediately and in complete safety. To assist them and complete the route, an urban KTEL vehicle was deployed, which transported them to their final destination. Traffic police and the municipality’s civil protection unit arrived at the scene.

However, the immobilisation of the large vehicle at the location caused a traffic jam in the surrounding roads. The road network in the area experienced chaotic traffic conditions for quite some time, with drivers facing major delays until the bus was removed and normal traffic flow was restored.
