CORFU. Sustained and exceptionally heavy rainfall led to widespread damage, with the most severe impact being the collapse of a large stretch of road in the Pagi–Prinilas area.

(North Corfu Municipality) The prolonged and particularly heavy rainfall on February 12 and 13 caused extensive damage to the road network of the Municipality of North Corfu, the most serious being the subsidence of a large section of the roadway in the Pagi–Prinilas area.

At the same time, the following were recorded:

  • Rockfalls and falling stones

  • Movement of large quantities of debris materials

  • Roads blocked by tree trunks

  • Extensive erosion of embankments

  • Accumulation of rubble and mud, which made driving difficult

Since February 12 and 13, the Civil Protection Service and the technical crews of the Municipality of North Corfu have been operating around the clock to restore road access and ensure public safety, racing against time and adverse weather conditions.

Immediate Intervention Points:

Pagi – Prinilas
Works are underway to address subsidence and the extensive collapse of the roadway in order to prevent traffic disruption and the isolation of the area.

Rikini – Horepiskopi
In the early hours of February 13, rocks, stones, and large quantities of debris that had flooded the roadway were removed, restoring traffic access.

Avliotes
On February 12, rubble and mud were cleared, and the road leading to the Avliotes Naval Observatory was reopened after being blocked by tree trunks and materials swept away by torrential waters.

The Municipal Authority of North Corfu, the Civil Protection Service, and the technical service crews remain on full alert, monitoring the development of the weather phenomena and intervening immediately wherever required.

The public is urged to exercise particular caution when travelling and to promptly inform the competent authorities of any problems.
