Journey through time with Ferrante Vitelli: special guided tour of New Fortress

CORFU. To celebrate International Museum Day, the ‘Corfu Fortifications’ team is hosting an open event showcasing the fortifications of Corfu.
On the occasion of International Museum Day 2026, the Facebook Page “Corfu Fortifications – Protection & Promotion of the Corfiot Fortifications” is organising a visit to the New Fortress (St. Mark’s) on Monday, 18 May at 12:00, which will consist of two parts.
In the first part, we will learn about the life and work of the architect of the New Fortress, Ferrante Vitelli in Corfu during the period 1576–1578. This will be followed by a visit to the open areas of the fortress, where historical information and details of its construction will be presented.
The meeting point is the side entrance (Tenedos), next to the passage. The invitation is open and free to everyone, and the activity is voluntary, aiming to help us get to know our local monuments better. Entry to the fortress will be free of charge.
