CORFU. Polytechno is continuing its collaboration with the Goethe Institute in Athens with the screening of the film ΄Hannah Arendt – Her thinking changed the world΄ directed by Margarethe von Trotta.

The film stars Barbara Sukowa, Axel Milberg, Janet McTeer and Julia Jentsch.

In 1961 the philosopher Hannah Arendt (1906 - 1975) followed the trial of Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem for The New Yorker magazine. She was expecting to see a monster and satanic genius but to her surprise she sees that the Nazi criminal is just an ordinary pedantic bureaucrat. She expresses her thoughts and comments in her best-known and most controversial work, 'Eichmann in Jerusalem. An Essay on the Banality of Evil".

It was initially published as five articles in 1963 before it came out as a book. The essay caused some of the fiercest disputes in the post-war period and influenced the political and historical views of national socialism. It also affected the life and work of Hannah Arendt and she was the victim of criticism and attacks - from the press, the academic community, the Israeli secret service Mosad and even from her closest friends.

The film is a portrait of a contemplative, courageous and determined woman who championed personal responsibility and critical thought and is unique in the history of thought in the 20th century.
