Public Central Historic Library activities for International Children΄s Book Day

CORFU. The International Day was established in 1967 by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), with the aim of promoting reading and a love of books among children worldwide.
(Public Central Historic Library) International Children's Book Day is celebrated every year on April 2nd, the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen, the great Danish storyteller, known for timeless works such as The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, and The Snow Queen.
The day was established in 1967 by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), with the aim of promoting reading and a love of books among children worldwide.
On the occasion of International Children's Book Day, Corfu Public Central Historic Library celebrated with a series of rich and diverse activities, aimed at children of all ages.
At the heart of the library, a thematic display was set up, dedicated to children's books, where young and old visitors could browse through selected titles, discover new stories, and draw inspiration from children's literature.
The library also organised interactive programmes, curated by Dimitra Karavida and Sophia Tsatsani, in its Children's Department in collaboration with schools in Corfu, transferring the love for books to children. The programme involved Corfu 1st Kindergarten, Stroggili Kindergarten, Corfu 8th Kindergarten, as well as the 2nd grade of Argyrades Junior High School. The children actively participated in storytelling, reading promotion activities, and games based on well-known children's books.
A special touch to the events was provided by the collaboration with Andrioti School, during which activities centered around English-language children's literature were organised. Through creative workshops and readings in English, the children were introduced to foreign-language fairy tales and expanded their horizons.
International Children's Book Day once again served as an opportunity for fruitful dialogue, creative expression, and, most importantly, strengthening the connection between children and books – something that Corfu Public Central Historic Library actively supports with consistency and vision.
