Foreign national, 68, dies after falling into sea
CORFU. The person who hired out the canoe has been arrested for not providing life jacket.
A 68-year-old foreign national lost his life at sea when his canoe capsized at Krouzeri beach on Tuesday evening.
He was on the canoe with his wife, but it overturned, and both ended up in the water. The 68-year-old was rescued by a passing boat, but he lost consciousness a few minutes later.
First aid was administered to him, and he was then transported by ambulance to Corfu General Hospital, where his death was confirmed.
Corfu Port Authority, which is conducting the investigation, ordered an autopsy, and the 52-year-old renter of the canoe was arrested as he had rented out the canoe without providing individual life jackets.
