Corfu AHEPA: Reforestation at ΄Podolakos΄ near Kassiopi

CORFU. In less than three hours, 800 trees were planted over an area of approximately 15 stremma.
(AHEPA) A reforestation project was successfully completed at the old North Corfu Municipal landfill in the 'Podolakos' area on Sunday, April 6, on the initiative of Corfu AHEPA.
Members of AHEPA Corfu, volunteer organisations, cultural societies, the Hunting Association, the Civil Protection team of the Municipality of North Corfu, as well as members of the public, united their efforts for a common cause: the regeneration of nature. Thanks to the comprehensive planning of the Forestry Department, with the forest officer Ms. Zaira Kritikou, the forester Ms. Maria Papaiwannou, and the collective effort of the volunteers, 800 trees were planted in less than three hours over an area of approximately 15 stremma, marking the completion of the second reforestation cycle in the area.
Also present at the reforestation were the Mayor of North Corfu, Giorgos Mahímaris, the deputy mayors Spyridoula Kokkali, Theofanis Skembris, Nikolaos Hiirdaris, and members of the Municipal Council, highlighting the importance of the initiative for the local community and the environment. The president of AHEPA Corfu, Giorgos Salampasis, expressed his feelings for the massive participation, stating: "The participation of the children in our project filled the area with smiles and hope. Through such experiences, we cultivate the environmental consciousness of the youth. Reforestation for us is an act of responsibility towards the environment and future generations."
He warmly thanked all the organisations and volunteers for their valuable contribution, especially the manager of the Costa Botanica hotel of the Grecotel chain for their support and sponsorship. The reforestation doesn’t stop here; we will continue next year with the 3rd reforestation cycle.
