30 June deadline for citizens to fulfill their fire protection obligations

CORFU. Announcement from Central Corfu Municipal Civil Protection Service.

Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipal Civil Protection Service has announced the obligations of citizens to comply with the provisions of the Firefighting Order: "Determination of preventive fire protection measures for plot areas and other uncovered spaces located in areas within approved urban plans, within the boundaries of settlements without an approved urban plan, in areas located within a radius of 100 metres from the boundaries of the aforementioned areas, as well as in out-of-plan plots with buildings." Citizens are requested to comply by 30 June.

Obligations of Responsible Parties

  1. After clearing the aforementioned areas, the responsible parties must submit a Responsible Declaration (online) to the National Register for Compliance with Preventive Fire Protection Measures via the online platform of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, regarding the fulfillment of fire protection obligations for their properties. The deadline for submitting the aforementioned declaration is 30.06.2024.

  2. In any case where the clearing declaration deadline passes without action, it is presumed that the responsible party consents to the clearing of their plot by the Municipality.

  3. The owners, possessors, usufructuaries, tenants, and subtenants of the areas covered by Article 1 of the Firefighting Order 20/2024 must consent to and accept the sample or emergency inspections, site visits, and actions of the competent authorities of the Municipality and the Fire Service.

 

Clearing Procedure

The required clearing includes:

a. Felling and removal of dry and broken trees and branches, as well as branches in direct contact with buildings.

b. Removal of flammable vegetation on the soil surface, such as leaf litter, dry grass, and fallen dry branches.

c. Trimming the base of tree crowns and increasing the height of the start of the crown from the soil surface, depending on the age and type of tree.

d. Thinning of bushy vegetation to reduce ground cover.

e. Removal of any other abandoned combustible, ignitable, explosive, or flammable materials, objects, and debris.

f. Safe collection and transportation of all cleaning residues.
