CORFU. Impressive turnout in Corfu Old Town in the fight against breast cancer

On Saturday morning, 3 October, Corfu successfully hosted the #GreeceRacefortheCure2026 event. The historic Liston and the narrow streets of the Old Town were filled with people taking part in the symbolic race and walk, sending a powerful message of solidarity and optimism.

The initiative aimed primarily to raise public awareness about breast cancer, highlighting the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and staying informed.

The route through Corfu Old Town was undertaken with great enthusiasm and carried a strong symbolic message:

For the women fighting the disease every day.

In memory of those who lost their lives.

For the wider public, as a reminder that regular screening saves lives.

The success of the event was made possible through the collective efforts and support of numerous volunteers and organisations:

Participants: A large number of people actively supported both routes (the run and the walk).

Route coordination: Ramona, Christina, Fani Merianou (who set the pace and relayed messages throughout the run), and Vicky Tsirigaki (who accompanied participants during the walk).

Support and coverage: Athena for her overall support; the digital news portal sindetiras.gr for media coverage; Café Europe for providing water and hosting participants; and photographer Dionysis (D.Artikos Photography) for documenting the event.

Organisation: The preparation and coordination of the event were carried out by Angela Vitouladiti, Elvira Metallinou and Toula Malacha.
