CORFU. 158 violations in Corfu.
(Ionian Islands Regional Police Department) Police checks on the Ionian Islands continue with undiminished intensity, as part of the campaign “Zero tolerance for not wearing a helmet”, aiming to ensure compliance with the new Highway Code.
According to data published for the ninth week of the campaign (August 25–31, 2025), there were 1,017 police checks and a total of 396 violations for not wearing a protective helmet were recorded on the Ionian Islands - 158 in Corfu, 137 in Zakynthos, 61 in Cephalonia and 40 in Lefkada.
The new Highway Code introduces significantly stricter penalties, sending a clear message about the importance of protecting human life.
The new fines for Corfu and the Ionian Islands are as follows:
-
€350 fine and suspension of driving license for 30 days for motorcycle drivers and for drivers who fail to ensure the safety of their passenger.
-
€350 fine for motorcycle passengers.
-
€30 fine for drivers of Light Personal Electric Vehicles (LPEVs).
The violations involved 343 drivers of various vehicles (291 motorcycles, 31 LPEVs, 16 quad bikes, 4 delivery riders and 1 tricycle), as well as 53 passengers. Authorities stress that the purpose of the campaign is not to impose fines, but to raise public awareness about the mandatory use of helmets as a protective measure against serious injuries.
Police services will continue daily checks with a strong presence on the roads, in order to establish more responsible driving behavior.
