63 municipal fines for violations of Cleanliness Regulations

CORFU. The imposition of a fine is not punitive in nature but aims to promote an understanding of the need for proper waste management and respect for our fellow citizens’ right to a clean public space.
63 fines were issued by the Municipality's Department of Cleaning and Recycling during the past week, to individuals who violated the Cleanliness Regulations.
The following fines were imposed:

15 fines for violation of Article 13.1 of the Regulations: Improper packaging of perishable waste and disposal well before collection time (€400 per item, bag, or package)

10 fines for violation of Article 8.2: Packaging waste (cardboard boxes, wooden crates, etc.) originating from shops, offices, etc., must be collected only after their volume has been minimised by compression or other suitable methods (e.g., tying) (€400)

20 fines for violation of Articles 13.3 & 13.7a: Failure to minimise the volume of all types of waste from food service establishments, wholesale businesses, supermarkets, retail shops, etc. (€400 per item, bag, or package)

5 fines for violation of Article 9.3.a: Improper disposal of construction waste (loose, uncovered, without permit) on pavements, streets, or other public spaces (€600)
Contractors are obligated to properly manage construction materials (rubble), disposing of them at licensed alternative waste management units, which are:

6 fines for violation of Article 10.c: Mixing of household waste with hazardous-toxic or infectious waste from hospitals or other private businesses (€3,000 for hazardous waste & €10,000 for infectious waste)

7 fines for violation of Article 7.8: Parking a vehicle in front of refuse bins (€200)
It is stressed that the imposition of a fine is not punitive in nature, but aims to promote understanding of the need for proper waste management and respect for our fellow citizens’ right to a clean public space.
The proper appearance of our Municipality is a shared responsibility.
