Three possible scenarios for Central Corfu Municipality

CORFU. A balance is being sought between the need for urban planning and off-plan construction. They were presented yesterday by those conducting the studies.
The Local Urban Planning is seeking a balance between the necessary urban development and off-plan construction.
The current phase of the study was presented by the planners of the collaborating firms to representatives of local authorities, institutions, and organisations. Among the many issues related to the development of the plans, three scenarios were presented, differing in the proportion of necessary urban expansion versus off-plan construction, including areas intended for tourism development.
The planners appear to lean toward the second scenario, which favours a mild spatial development approach, as much as possible. The other two scenarios involve, on the one hand, more or less maintaining the current situation, and on the other hand, intensifying urban planning and restricting off-plan construction.
The studies are primarily spatial rather than strictly urban in nature. They also address environmental impacts and geological conditions. Once completed, they will take the form of a Presidential Decree, which—as was strongly emphasised—“cannot be easily changed,” and will define the spatial parameters for at least the next fifteen years. They will also leave behind a geolocation database as a legacy—available for use by any institution, researcher, or user—with information and data useful for the design and implementation of any strategy.
Opening the meeting, Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos stressed the long period of arbitrariness that, as a status quo, largely shaped the town’s development, and stressed the need to impose order in order to upgrade the area.
Also in attendance were Deputy Regional Governors Mamalos and Ioannou, the President of the Municipal Council Alamanos, the responsible Deputy Mayor Vlassis, Borbokis from the LaSY party, the President of the Regional Branch of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), Voulgaris, many engineers, and the presidents of the residents' associations of the town and of Garitsa, Olympios and Vergis, among others.
