Meeting and discussion about Vidos Island
CORFU. The meeting was organised by ΄Friends of Vidos΄ Association for the Protection and Promotion of Vidos.
On Wednesday, June 25, ΄Friends of Vidos΄ Association for the Protection and Promotion of Vidos organised a discussion on the unacceptable situation that has developed on Vidos, as a result of the inadequate and problematic management by the current municipal administration under Mayor Poulimenos.
The response from the community, as well as from institutional representatives of political parties, municipal and regional factions, and associations from the town and the rest of the island, served as the starting point for a very productive discussion about the prospects of this unique small island.
Our Association informed all those present about the initiatives and discussions that have taken place, as well as about the responses of the current municipal administration regarding the image of neglect on Vidos. These concern, in summary: the decommissioning and lack of maintenance of the municipal shuttle boat, the failure to plan for even the basic operation of the canteen after the departure of IKOS, the future operation of the municipal summer camps, the lack of water, the (non-)functioning of toilets, cleanliness, etc.
It was decided that all elected officials of the first and second degree of local government would contribute to and highlight the issue of Vidos, as well as that all representatives of political parties and community groups would assist in informing the public and raising awareness about the problems.
Our Association will continue its efforts to inform all the Corfu public about the practices of the current municipal administration, and to restore the relationship between the people of Corfu and the historic island of Vidos.
We have decided to visit this beautiful place all together on Sunday, July 6. We invite all citizens of the island to participate in this action, as well as all municipal and regional factions. We consider the presence of all local media to be essential in order to fully capture the extent of the abandonment and decline currently prevailing on Vidos.
The hypocrisy and opportunism of those managing our daily lives is unacceptable.
We call on everyone to become part of the solution to the tragic reality we are experiencing.
