Removal of bulky objects and mattresses put on hold following Temploni fire
CORFU. The announcement was sent by Central Corfu Municipal Cleaning Department to the presidents of the communities.
(Central Corfu Municipal Cleaning Department) We would like to inform you that following yesterday’s fire, the Service is suspending all bulky waste and mattress collection.
In Corfu, there is no landfill for bulky items (its construction is the ongoing responsibility of FODSA), and the temporary storage site (for their later processing and recycling) in Temploni can no longer be used.
At the beginning of next week, you will be informed about the bulky waste collection schedule for each community.
A) Professionals in the construction sector are required to deliver rubble to C&D waste processing units, as they know and are obliged to do by law.
B) Private individuals who have bulky items (such as furniture or mattresses) must keep them at their homes, as we will no longer collect them from the streets.
C) Professionals must transport such items to the processing units using their own means.

Furthermore, as of yesterday, the Recyclable Materials Sorting Centre has ceased operation. This means that if the malfunction is not fixed today, we will have to suspend recycling collection as well.
Due to delays that are not the fault of our service, we are unfortunately unable to carry out proper and regular waste collection.
Please understand that we too are awaiting the completion of scheduled procedures.
Any pressure on us or on our personnel, who are working selflessly to fill the gaps, will not improve the situation.
