CORFU. The project will be implemented through specific sub-projects, which concern: Studies, Expropriations, Salvage Archaeological Works, Road Construction.

(Ionian Islands Regional Authority) The inclusion of the project "CONSTRUCTION OF THE TRIA GEFYRIA – VRIONI ROAD IN CORFU," with a budget of €27,884,933.73, in the ESPA Programme "Ionian Islands 2021-27," was signed by the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Yiannis Trepeklis, on Monday, May 5.

This project involves the construction of a new road artery that will bypass the existing National Road "Corfu – Achilleion Ring Road" from the intersection at Tria Gefyria to the area of Vrioni. The construction of the road will address the severe traffic problem in the area by reducing travel times to and from the island's entry points, lowering transportation costs, and increasing road safety.

The project will be implemented through the following specific sub-projects:

  • Studies

  • Expropriations

  • Salvage Archaeological Works (based on the applicable provisions for project implementation by the 21st Ephorate of Antiquities)

  • Construction of the Tria Gefyria – Vrioni road

The Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Yiannis Trepeklis, following the signing of the project's inclusion, spoke about its importance and the efficiency that the Regional Authority needed to demonstrate:

"This project is a top priority for the Regional Authority, and that’s why we moved forward at a fast pace. I have personally committed that we will do everything in our power to ensure that the Tria Gefyria – Vrioni road is completed during our term in office.

As I have stressed before – and I will say it again – the two major challenges for Corfu, which I have set as goals as Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, are waste management and this particular road project.

It is, after all, a long-standing demand of the local community, as it is unacceptable to aim for high-quality tourism while it takes visitors an hour and a half to get from their hotel to Corfu Town.

With the implementation of this project, road safety will be improved, traffic congestion at the town’s entrances will be reduced, and of course, the quality of life for permanent residents will be upgraded."
