Palm Sunday procession with St.Spyridon΄s sacred relics

CORFU. The procession was established in 1629 in commemoration of the miraculous deliverance of the island from the plague.
On Palm Sunday, following the Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Spyridon, the largest procession of the Sacred Relics took place — both in terms of duration and route — approximately following the path of the old town walls, led by Archbishop Nektarios of Corfu.
A large crowd was present this year as well, and in a spirit of reverence, they followed the Sacred Relics during the procession through the town.
The island’s philharmonic bands, schools, scouts and local authorities took part in the celebrations.
The procession was established in 1629 in commemoration of the miraculous deliverance of the island from the plague.
