Sacred Relics on display ahead of St. Spyridon΄s Day

The religious services in memory of Saint Spyridon, the patron saint of the island, began at 11 in the morning on Monday.

The start of the celebratory three-day period was marked on the eve of the feast with a supplication to Saint Spyridon by Nektarios, Archbishop of Corfu, Paxos, and the Diapontia Islands. This was followed by the placing of the Sacred Relics of the saint on display for three days.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of people, including local authority representatives.

The Sacred Relics will remain on display until Wednesday afternoon, December 13. Until then, the church will remain open for the faithful around the clock.

The culmination of the religious events in memory of the island's patron saint will take place with the replacement of the Sacred Relics in the shrine at 4 p.m. on Wednesday 13 December.

Programme of Religious Services, December 11-13

Monday, December 11:

11:00 a.m.: Supplication and Display of the Sacred Relics of Saint Spyridon.

6:30 p.m.: Grand Celebratory Vesper Service, presided over by Archbishop Nektarios, followed by the Divine Sermon.

*After the Vesper Service, the first part of the Life and Miracles of Saint Spyridon will be read.

11:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.: Supplication, Hymns to the Saint.
