CORFU. The procession was established in 1985 in commemoration of the restoration of the icons by Agia Theodora.
With great splendour and favourable weather, the procession of the relics of Agia Theodora Augusta took place once again this year.
It is held by the Metropolitan Church of Corfu on the Sunday of Orthodoxy. The procession was established in 1985 by Archbishop Timotheos in commemoration of the restoration of the icons by Agia Theodora. In 843 AD, thanks to her decisive contribution, Queen and later Saint Theodora put an end to the Iconoclast controversy in Byzantium, leading to the triumph of Orthodoxy.
