CORFU. For the first time there were no philharmonic bands following their unanimous decision not to take part.
There was a sad atmosphere at today's procession for Agia Theodora due to the recent tragedy in Tempi and, following a decision by the Holy Synod, there were memorial services held at all the churches nationwide for the 57 who died in the rail accident.
In Corfu the procession in Corfu Town was held for the first time without the town's three philharmonic bands following their unanimous decision not to take part due to the period of mourning.
The procession on Orthodox Sunday was established in 1985 by decision of Corfu Municipal Council in remembrance of Agia Theodora's great efforts to restore the icons and for the Orthodox Church to triumph.
