CORFU. ITB Berlin is at the heart of the tourism industry, bringing together approximately 10,000 exhibitors and 160,000 visitors.

(Central Corfu Municipality) Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality took part this year in the ITB Berlin tourism exhibition—one of the largest in Europe—with its own independent booth. This initiative responded to the longstanding demand of the tourism sector, enhancing the promotion of the destination and providing stakeholders and businesses with the opportunity to act effectively for the benefit of the local economy.

Especially in a period of economic and geopolitical uncertainty, maintaining a strong presence in the German and other markets is essential, as competition in the wider region intensifies.

The Deputy Mayor for Sustainable Tourism Development, Spyros Halikopoulos, held business meetings focused on diversifying the tourism product, with emphasis on alternative and thematic tourism, as well as extending the tourism season. Additionally, efforts were made to support the opening of long-haul inbound markets, such as the Far East and North America.

The extension of tourist activity beyond the peak season was also the subject of a meeting between Deputy Mayor Spyros Halikopoulos, the President of the Hoteliers’ Association, Haralambos Voulgaris, the President of the Travel Agents’ Association, Dimitris Diavatis, the Marketing Director of Fraport, Katerina Pollatou, and the Director of Aviation Development at Fraport, Haralambos Filos, with a major British airline. The goal is to continue flights from the United Kingdom during the winter months, serving the British community, locals travelling to Britain, and, most importantly, positioning Corfu in the city break market. The focus is on periods featuring the town’s and surrounding region’s unique festive events.

ITB Berlin is at the heart of the tourism industry, bringing together approximately 10,000 exhibitors and 160,000 visitors. Additionally, due to its geographical location—at the centre of Europe—and the timing of the event—at the beginning of the tourism season—ITB is considered a barometer for the trends of each year.

The overall assessment of ITB is highly positive, with encouraging messages that confirm the destination’s position in the international market.
