577 driving offences in Ionian Islands last week

Traffic Police carried out checks between 19/1 and 25/1 in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada.

1,858 vehicles were checked

577 offences were confirmed (285 in Corfu, 125 in Zakynthos, 100 in Cephalonia and 67 in Lefkada).

These included the following:

• 187 for illegal parking
• 84 for speeding
• 44 for not using helmets
• 37 for driving without a licence
• 31 for not using seat belts
• 22 for MOT violations
• 16 for driving without insurance
• 10 for using a mobile phone whilst driving
• 8 for driving on the wrong side of the road
• 7 for driving under the influence
• 5 for noise above the permitted level
