CORFU. The project΄s results were integrated into an online platform, which not only allows for easy and effective use and application of these results but also provides easy access to information.

(Ionian Islands Regional Authority) The Ionian Islands Regional Authority organised two events on October 21 and 24 to highlight the results of the BIONIAN project.

On Monday, October 21, staff from the Environmental and Spatial Planning Departments and the Agricultural Economy Departments of all Regional Units of the Ionian Islands Region, along with their Directors and Department Heads, were trained in the tools developed within the framework of the project. On October 24, the Regional Authority organised an online informational presentation of the project, which included various environmental organisations from the Region as well as stakeholders focused on the agricultural and cultural sectors.

The BIONIAN project, funded by the Ionian Islands Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020, focuses on actions for the protection and promotion of biodiversity in ecosystems and areas of natural beauty within the Ionian Islands Region through ‘smart’ systems for the detection, recording, digital mapping and management of environmental pressures.

The project aimed to identify, record, map, and develop ‘smart’ tools for monitoring and promoting the species within the Ionian Islands Region that are connected to, supported by, or utilise the Region’s soil resources, contributing to the long-term vision of the National Biodiversity Strategy.

The project’s results were integrated into an online platform, which facilitates not only easy and effective use and application but also easy access to information.

The results can be utilised by the Ionian Islands Regional Authority and its structures, the management bodies of protected areas, and the general public at the following link: https://bionian-project.gr/en.

In addition to the above, in-person workshops will also be organised, open to all members of organisations related to the Programme’s scope as well as to all citizens in the Region’s four Regional Units who show interest in the Programme, continuing through to the end of the year.
