Corfu Town Easter traffic measures announced
CORFU. More parking spaces due to the expected increase in visitors.
A meeting took place today regarding the Easter measures in anticipation of the expected increase in visitors this year. The meeting was convened by the Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, Stefanos Poulimenos, with the participation of relevant stakeholders.
There were representatives from: Catering, the Ambulance Service, tourist organisations, the Coastguard, fire department, traffic police, Municipal Civil Protection Service, Corfu Police Chief, Port Authority, the Chamber of Commerce, the Ionian Federation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship, AOCTA, Corfu National Sports Centre, Corfu Urban bus service, and municipal services. Also attending the meeting were deputy mayors Kardonas, Vousolinos, Halikiopoulos, Theotokis, as well as the president of the Municipal Council, Alamanos.
The aim is to ensure the seamless movement of visitors on the island without, however, disrupting the daily lives of permanent residents. The Mayor announced that there will be additional parking spaces beyond the known ones, such as Corfu National Sports Centre (EAKK), the main area of the port, a section of the construction site where the indoor training facility will be created in Alykes, the area in front of the Garitsa cemetery, and some school yards will also be opened to be used as parking spaces.
