CORFU. Approximately 1,500 pupils, accompanied by their teachers, were taken on guided tours of four museums and two historical and archaeological sites by members of the Union of Tourist Guides.

As it does every year, the Ionian Islands and Western Greece Union of Tourist Guides celebrated International Tourist Guide Day by offering free guided tours to the public.

This year, aapproximately 1,500 pupils, accompanied by their teachers, were taken on guided tours of four museums and two historical and archaeological sites by members of the Union. Through the narrations of the guides, they learnt about valuable elements of our cultural heritage, but above all about the passion with which the guides adorn their profession and Greek tourism.

This is one of the many instances where our guides offer their services selflessly, as a contribution to the local community and society as a whole. Traditionally, they respond promptly to any invitation related to special interest groups or constructive tourism promotion, such as for charitable foundations, or as part of familiarization trips for journalists and travel agents.

For this year's International Tourist Guide Day, the Union extends its gratitude to the staff and administrations of the Antiquities Inspectorate, Corfu Archaeological Museum, the Paleopolis Museum, the Museum of Asian Art, the Capodistrias Museum, and the Old Fortress, as well as the Traffic and Tourist Police Departments for their support and excellent cooperation.

Thanks are also extended to Corfu Primary Education Department and teachers, but above all to the pupils who responded to the invitation.
