The Corfu branch of the Vehicle Rental with Driver Association had a courtesy meeting with Spiros Halikiopoulos, Deputy Mayor of Sustainable Tourism Development, at the Old Town Hall today.
Present at the meeting were: Marinos Mikalef, President of the Board of Directors; Spiros Kontos, Vice President; Leonidas Pachis, Secretary; and Spyridoula Roi, Treasurer.
During the meeting, the board members updated the Deputy Mayor about issues related to their sector and the priorities of the Association, in anticipation of the upcoming tourist season.
Mr. Mikalef announced that a Panhellenic Vehicle Rental with Driver Federation will be established immediately, aiming for the stronger representation of a sector that serves the public interest and contributes to the enhancement of the tourist product on offer.
The Deputy Mayor agreed that: "The tourism industry is called upon to address demands with new data. Traditional methods of service across the spectrum of tourism must evolve and adapt to modern needs."
Subsequently, the discussion focused on the longstanding issues plaguing the tourism sector, with emphasis placed on the traffic problem in the town as well as in areas that receive a large volume of visitors such as Paleokastritsa.
The Deputy Mayor, on his part, committed to organising an expanded meeting involving all stakeholders in tourism, aimed at prioritising the sector's needs and efforts to find mutually acceptable solutions between the Municipality and tourism entities.
The meeting concluded in a particularly positive atmosphere with mutual intentions for fruitful cooperation for the benefit of the island's tourism economy.
