CORFU. They visited Corfu Jewish Synagogue and the Holocaust Memorial of Jewish Martyrs.

On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the Day of Remembrance of Greek Jewish Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust, pupils from the senior classes of Corfu - Athinagoreio 4th Experimental Primary School visited Corfu Jewish Synagogue, a town landmark closely linked to the historical journey of the Jewish Community of the island, as well as the Holocaust Memorial of Jewish Martyrs.

At the synagogue, with the excellent guidance of Nina Vital, an active member of the Jewish Community of Corfu and a descendant of a Holocaust survivor, the children and teachers had the opportunity to learn about the historical journey of the island's Jews, the community housed in the old town, and the tragic events of the Holocaust during World War II.

The pupils delved into the historical, religious, and social characteristics of the Jewish community and its integration into the island's society, as well as the events of World War II that led to the tragic decline in the population of Corfu's Jewish residents.

Finally, they visited the Holocaust Memorial, where its history was discussed. The Holocaust remains one of the darkest and most harrowing events in world history, which should remain indelibly imprinted in the memory of both older and younger generations, shaping the historical trajectory of humanity.
