Deputy Mayor presents Central Corfu Municipality tourism promotion plan

CORFU. The Tourism Promotion Programme for 2024 was presented to stakeholders by the Deputy Mayor for Sustainable Tourism Development, Spyros Halikiopoulos.

The Tourism Promotion Programme for 2024 of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands was presented to Corfu stakeholders by the Deputy Mayor for Sustainable Tourism Development, Spyros Halikiopoulos, at the Old Town Hall.

During the presentation, based on the analysis of destination characteristics, the main axes of the Municipality's strategy were presented, along with promotional activities, aiming towards sustainable tourism development.

The Deputy Mayor committed to close collaboration with stakeholders on specific issues and emphasised the need for cooperation between the Municipality and the private sector for more effective tourism management.

In the ensuing discussion, attendees highlighted persistent issues and contemporary challenges in the tourist economy. Proposals were put forward for showcasing elements of local cultural heritage and collaborations between the Municipality, the Ionian Islands Region, island municipalities, the Chamber of Commerce, and other organisations, tourism and production entities, and businesses. This collaboration would be based on a technocratic and specific goal-oriented approach.

 

The following representatives of tourism and production entities in Corfu attended the meeting:

  • The Corfu Chamber of Commerce was represented by Vassilis Kaloudis, Head of the Tourism Department, and the members of the Board of Directors: Spyros Spais, Christos Skayias, Kostas Kourtesis, and Elena Karoubi.

  • The Association of Corfu Travel Agents (AOCTA) was represented by Vice President Dimitris Diavatis.

  • The Corfu Federation of Tourist Accommodation Owners was represented by General Secretary Petros Kouris.

  • The Corfu Hoteliers Union was represented by President Haralambos Voulgaris.

  • The Ionian Federation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship was represented by Treasurer Christos Lavranos.

  • The Trade Association was represented by President Yiannis Alegris.

  • The Association of Corfu Port Agents was represented by President Katerina Athanasiou.

  • Fraport was represented by Duty Airport Manager Dimitris Petropoulos.

  • Corfu Port Authority was represented by CEO Spyros Zervopoulos.

  • The Ionian University was represented by the President of the Tourism Department, Associate Professor Konstantinos Voglis.

  • The Ionian Islands Port Authority was represented by the new Director, Aggelos Economidis, and Aggelos Koskinas. The former Director, Dr. Konstantinos Tsoumanis, also attended the meeting.

  • The Association of Hotel Managers in Corfu was represented by President Alexandros Anemogiannis.

  • The Union of Licensed Tour Guides in the Ionian Islands and Western Greece was represented by President Elisavet Savvati.

  • The Corfu Cooperative of Taxi Owners was represented by President Loukas Stamatis and Director Penelope Tarasidou.

  • The IEK Corfu School of Tourism Professions was represented by Deputy Director Giorgos Kotinis and staff member Spyros Fagogenis.

  • The Association of Tourist Bus Owners was represented by Spyros Tsirigotis and Spyros Handrinos.

  • The Corfu Association of Restaurant and Related Professions was represented by President Vassilis Vassilakis.

  • The Unified Tourist Authority was represented by President Alexandros Litsardopoulos.

  • The Association of Corfu Old Town Catering Professionals was represented by President Yiannis Vlachos and Treasurer Konstantinos Vassilakopoulos.

 

The Municipality of North Corfu was represented by Municipal Councillor Nikos Hirdaris, and the former Deputy Mayor of Tourism, Panayiotis Varouchas, also participated in the meeting.
