CORFU. Cultural associations, residents, and other officials attended a meeting at the Flagginio hall.

The group "Mon Repos, beloved beach of Corfiots" has taken the initiative to coordinate all the relevant groups in order for the beach at Mon Repos to regain its popular character and to save the pontoons that are collapsing.

During the meting that took place yesterday evening at the Flagginio hall, the inviolable right of citizens to unobstructed access and use of the beaches was stressed. This right, which in recent years is increasingly being violated by professionals, as there is no real control of compliance with the terms of the contract.

Residents have already sent a letter to the previous municipal authority, to which, they said, a response has not been received.

Together with other groups, they aim to formulate and advocate for a resolution to a series of demands.

Among other things, they consider it essential to ensure free access, restore accessibility for people with special needs, and reinstate the lifeguard. They also stress the need for beach maintenance, seabed cleaning, and pontoon repair.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Technical Services, Andreas Kardonas, Takis Theotokis from the Everyday Life Department, Spyros Nerantzis from the Cleaning Department, Alekos Michalas from the Regional Council, the Old Town Permanent Residents Association, the Garitsa Association, and others.
