CORFU. Giorgos Mahimaris is optimistic that the excellent collaboration with his local government colleagues will continue.

The re-elected Mayor of North Corfu, Giorgos Mahimaris, was sworn in yesterday, along with the members of the new municipal council and local councils. The swearing-in ceremony was officiated by Archbishop Nektarios.

The ceremony, held at the Town Hall Square in Acharavi, was attended by the new Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Yiannis Trepeklis, and the new mayors of Central Corfu, Stefanos Poulimenos, and South Corfu, Vassilis Himariotis. Also present were former Prefect Andreas Pagratis, former mayors Michalis Karras and Yiannis Provatas, former MP Kostas Pavlidis, as well as the outgoing Deputy Regional Governor for Corfu, Kostas Zorbas, and the outgoing regional council president, Nikos Mouzakitis.

In his opening remarks, Giorgos Mahimaris expressed optimism for an excellent collaboration with the new local authorities. He went on to discuss both the achievements of his previous term and the longstanding issues that still need resolution, such as water supply, the issue of DIADEYAK, and the cost of waste management, which burdens the municipality with an annual cost of 14 million Euros.

He also referred to the four sports fields that are progressing with a contractual agreement with the regional authority, the construction of an Indoor Gymnasium, as well as an Indoor Sports Hall, which will be completed within six months.

He made a commitment that the new municipal authority will soon proceed with the construction of a Municipal Theatre in North Corfu.

He pledged that, in collaboration with the regional authority, the restoration of the road network, which still faces significant issues, will continue.

Giorgos Mahimaris also stated that the construction of the Imerolia Marina has already been planned by TAIPED (Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund) and will be the largest in the Mediterranean.

"The values on which our success depends: Courage, justice, faith, and love for our area. These are what we have in our hearts. These are what, in my long career of over 30 years, always make me work much harder," he concluded.
