CORFU. The infrastructure will also help in the surveillance of borders and wooded areas.

The project to strengthen mobile phone antennas of the national network, in order to address the problems with telephone providers from neighbouring countries, is expected to be included in the new ESPA programme in the coming months.

The issue also concerns North Corfu, as there are problems in the mobile phone network because the area has access to Albanian networks. As the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance Kostas Kyranakis said from Corfu, the project that will be included in the new funding period of the ESPA 2021-2027 programme, will concern North Corfu, Evros and the Eastern Aegean.

Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas raised the issue of the problematic mobile phone network in the northern part of the island to Mr. Kyranakis during the Deputy Minister's visit in October.

In his statements to the media today, Mr. Kyranakis stressed that this is a project of national objective that the leadership of the Ministry of Digital Governance is planning, enabling citizens and visitors of the country to have a signal from Greek companies. "The infrastructure will help not only in the telecommunications signal but also in the television signal, as well as in a number of other apps that can help in the surveillance of borders and wooded areas in the fire ban period, so that firefighters can detect fires more quickly," he said.

As for the cultural heritage of Corfu, Mr. Kyranakis stressed that the Ministry of Digital Governance is funding Yiannis Smaragdis' film "Capodistrias" through the National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME) and that the film about the life of the first governor of Greece is intended to be shown abroad.
