Corfu Chamber of Commerce: "Wind turbines will destroy the Diapontia Islands"
CORFU. "We unite our voices with all the bodies that deny this disastrous development".
The Corfu Chamber of Commerce is informing about its position regarding the installation of an offshore wind park in the Central Corfu Municipality. It was informed by the Deputy Mayor for Othoni Dimitris Katehis regarding the way the installation of an offshore wind park in the Central Corfu Municipality is being promoted.
In a protest text it stated the following: "The Chamber of Commerce, having taken into account all the announcements, the resolution of the Municipal Council and the documents presented to us, declares that we completely disagree with the location of the wind park, since with this proposed location Othoni and all the Diapontia Islands will be destroyed. The environmental effects (sea, land and air) will also be enormous. It is a Natura area. Transportation will not be possible anymore (Othoni is surrounded by the wind park within walking distance). Its abandonment will be sure.
Let's not forget that this is the northwesternmost point of Greece with huge geopolitical importance. Therefore, we ask that all the voices that deny this disastrous development be taken into account, with which we, the business world of Corfu, unite ours".
