CORFU. Thursday 28 September, 10:00-13:00 in Annunziata Square.

On the occasion of the World Contraception Day on 26 September and in order to protect and promote citizens' health, an information event will be held to raise awareness and inform the public about the existing contraception methods.

The action is being organised by the Department of Protection and Promotion of Public Health, the Roma Community Centre and the cooperating bodies, the Corfu Health Centre, the Corfu Local Health Unit (TOMY) and the Ionian Islands Regional Department of the Hellenic Association of Social Workers.

The Corfu Health Centre gynecologist, Tania Elmatzoglou, along with the scientific staff of this and other collaborating institutions, will participate in this event.

It will take place on Thursday 28 September, from 10:00 to 13:00 in Annunziata Square.

World Contraception Day takes place on September 26th every year on the initiative of the UN, with the aim of informing women and men about existing contraception methods. The main reason that has made such a day necessary is the fact that 85% of teenage pregnancies are unplanned and that every year millions of people are infected with sexually transmitted diseases because they do not know how to protect themselves.

World Contraception Day is also dedicated to women's right to decide for themselves when to have a child, avoiding a possible unwanted pregnancy with all its unpleasant consequences, the main one being abortion.

Contraception means preventing an unwanted pregnancy, preserving fertility and family planning.

World Contraception Day is a global campaign that centres around the vision where every pregnancy is wanted.

Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Andreas Skoupouras is inviting the public to participate in this action.
