Corfu Town Health Centre acquires modern general-purpose ultrasound scanner
CORFU. A gynaecologist has also been appointed at the Health Centre as auxiliary staff, covering the vacancy that existed.
Corfu Town Health Centre has been equipped with a state-of-the-art general-purpose ultrasound scanner capable of serving gynaecological, urological and cardiological cases for the past one and a half months.
The request of the Health Centre's administration was accepted by the 6th Regional Health Authority (6th YPE), and now patients in need of these specific examinations can turn to the public facility to be served, significantly relieving the General Hospital from these particular tests.
The machine was fully funded by the 6th YPE with a sum of 56,000 Euros. Additionally, a gynaecologist has already been appointed as auxiliary staff to the Health Centre for the use of the new ultrasound machine, covering the existing vacancy.
"The 6th Regional Health Authority provided the funding and the new modern general-purpose ultrasound machine is now operational, providing solutions within the town without requiring patients to visit the hospital's Emergency Department," said Regional Authority Director, Yiannis Karvelis, who is in Corfu for two days. "Alongside the new machine, a new gynaecologist has been appointed at the Health Centre, starting her career in the National Health System (ESY) in Corfu.
"I would like to sincerely thank her for her decision to relocate along with her family to Corfu. I would also like to thank Mr. Polyzos and Ms. Apostolidou, who contributed to putting us in touch with the doctor and having her here today. The solutions that need to be provided for staffing at all levels, both for this Health Centre and the other Health Centres, as well as the hospital, should come either from within the prefecture or through interpersonal relationships with individuals who want to come here to work and help them find suitable accommodation."
Improvement work
As part of the briefing, Mr. Karvelis referred to the work that has been done to the Health Centre building, even though it is not owned by the Regional Health Authority (YPE) but by EFKA (Social Security Service). He said that window replacements have been carried out, and will continue in the upcoming period, climate control systems have been installed, a significant portion of the electrical equipment has been changed, hydraulic work has been done and a new lift has been installed.
He also pointed out that significant work has taken place in the other Health Centres in the region as well. These include the restoration of the basement at the Ag. Athanasios Health Centre in Agros, hydraulic work at the Ag. Markos Health Centre, replacement of equipment at the Ag. Athanasios and Lefkimmi Health Centres. "All three of these Health Centres in the region have been included in the Recovery Fund for their upgrade," Mr. Karvelis said.
"The Technical Service of the 6th YPE has prepared the technical files, which are ready for submission at the first Technical Meeting of the Ministry of Health, expected within the first ten days of September. After the approval of the technical files, they will be put up for auction at TAIPED (Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund) for renovation and energy upgrading, as well as for the upgrade of equipment and infrastructure in all three of these Health Centres. This is something that has never been done before."
The director of Corfu Town Health Centre, Sofia Mavropoulou, expressed her warm thanks for the immediate response of the 6th Regional Health Authority to her request. On her part, the new gynaecologist, Tania Elmatzoglou, expressed her wishes for good collaboration and accurate diagnoses.
