CORFU. Gynaecological ultrasound scanner with Regional Authority resources - Equipment to be delivered soon.
Women who were unable to undergo a simple but essential examination will no longer suffer with this much needed machine for preventive gynecological examinations that will equip the Corfu Town Health Centre.
Until now, women who wished to undergo a vaginal ultrasound had to either wait up to two months to have the examination at Corfu Hospital or pay out of their own pocket to be served more promptly at a private diagnostic centre.
At the end of 2022, the Regional Authority received a request from the Town Health Centre for the procurement of the machine.
As the Corfu Town Health Centre Director Sophia Mavropoulou said, the Regional Authority responded to the request. Ms. Mavropoulou even pointed out the interest shown by the Deputy Regional Governor Melita Andrioti, with whom she was in constant contact. The request was approved and the machine was included in the Regional Authority's budget for 2023.
The programmatic contract between the Regional Authority and the 6th Health Region was signed on Tuesday 23 May at the Ionian Islands Regional Administration Headquarters in Alykes by the Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa and the 6th Health Region Director Yiannis Karvelis. Also present were the Deputy Regional Governor for Public Health, Employment and Social Welfare Melita Andrioti and the Corfu Town Health Centre Director Sophia Mavropoulou.
The budget for the procurement of the ultrasound scanner, which will be installed in the Corfu Health Centre's Gynaecology Department, is €23,000 and is funded by the Region.
The contracting authority for the project is the Region, the competent services of which are responsible for carrying out the tendering procedures for the procurement of the equipment. The ownership of the latter - following the procurement and acceptance - will automatically go to the Corfu Hospital and free of charge.
