Two companies competing for Corfu Health Centres renovation project

With their ongoing problems, the Health Centres of Corfu are awaiting the long-awaited renovation contract. Architectural issues, reinforcement of medical equipment, as well as staff shortages, characterise the current situation in primary healthcare.

The tendering process for the Health Centres is entering the next phase as construction companies have expressed interest in the competition, and the bids have been unsealed.

This constitutes an initially positive development, as there is always the fear that the competition may be fruitless, leading to a new cycle of re-tendering and delays, at a time when primary healthcare structures have been collapsing for years.

According to ND Corfu MP Stefanos Gikas, it is estimated that the selection of the provisional contractor could take place within the month, and the competition could be completed with the final contractor shortly before Easter, if everything progresses smoothly. The optimistic estimation is that contracts could be signed and construction works could commence during the summer of 2024.

Information received by Enimerosi indicates that the following construction companies expressed interest during the tendering process: TECHNIKI ANAPTYKSI A.T.E.V.E. and V. KONDYLIS & CO A.E.

TAIPED responsible for project

The contracting authority is the 6th Health Region Administration, while TAIPED is the executing authority and acts on behalf and in the name of the beneficiary Ministry. The duration of the project has been estimated at 14 months from the signing of the relevant contract. The project is being implemented within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

This involves the energy and operational upgrade and renovation of the Health Centres of Lefkimmi, Agios Athanasios - Agros, and Agios Markos. The estimated budget for the project tender, including VAT, amounts to €4,693,434.10 (excluding VAT: €3,785,027.50).

Project obectives

The buildings housing the Health Centres were mainly constructed in the 1980s and have an area ranging from approximately 900 sq.m. to 1,100 sq.m., consisting of single-story, ground-level buildings with basement sections. The renovation aims to achieve energy and operational improvement of the buildings, including upgrading thermal insulation, electromechanical equipment, and their networks, as well as addressing the overall condition of their building infrastructure (walls, floors, ceilings, insulation, roofs, etc.). Additionally, the installation of equipment to facilitate access for people with special needs is planned.

The energy upgrade includes thermal insulation of the building through the construction of external insulation, replacement of fixtures, and reconstruction and insulation of roofs and rooms. Furthermore, the replacement of electromechanical equipment and the reconstruction of electromechanical networks are also planned.

The scope of work also includes the preparation of a structural adequacy study and the necessary investigative work, as well as a study for the restoration and reinforcement of structural elements, as required, to ensure compliance with modern regulatory frameworks.

Additionally, all necessary repair works are envisaged, as well as case-by-case upgrading works for the surrounding environment.
